Mask Mandate to End... What Does This Mean For Events?

Writer's picture: Anthony DempseyAnthony Dempsey

Since the recent announcement of the mask mandate being lifted in the state of Texas, I've seen so many mixed emotions on the subject. Some people are overjoyed and ready to throw away their masks for good, while others are preparing to stay out of the public for a few more months. Who am I to say what is correct, and what people should do? After all, I'm a corporate magician and mentalist - not a scientist!

As for myself, I'll still be wearing a mask at all of my events. I'm taking bookings as I normally would in a pre-COVID world, but I'm just doing my part by wearing a mask. Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to receive the second dose of my COVID vaccine recently, so I have another line of defense while I'm at private events and corporate events. With my wife being pregnant right now, I want to do all I can to keep our home safe. We still dine out at restaurants a few times per week, and go out in public. Who knows, maybe we'll reduce our time in public for a little while to see how this no-mask thing goes. I know I don't want to be a guinea pig!

Speaking of guinea pigs, I'm so glad the vaccine process was quick and easy. I just signed up on my county's health department website, waited a few weeks, and they emailed me with an appointment date. When I arrived, they had the process running really smoothly. Police and firefighters were in charge of the check-in process. I think I only waited five minutes before receiving the vaccine. A few minutes in the observation area afterwards, and I was good to go! I did experience some pain in my arm the following day, but I really can't complain.

I foresee more private events beginning to creep back up, but I think it will be just a little while longer before corporate events ramp up into full gear. It's been a tough time for many corporations, and they may need a little more time to recover. Only time will tell! For now, I'm more than happy with my new clientele of baby showers, wedding receptions, private parties, and church events. I'll see you soon, corporate events! Until then, stay safe, Texas!
